What is Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)?

Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is an immigration status available to children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned by one or both parents. A state juvenile court must first issue an order determining the child's eligibility for SIJS before an applicant can file for the benefit at USCIS. SIJS recipients will be able to obtain a green card and a work permit and eventually apply for U.S. citizenship.
