What are the Immigration Courts?

Immigration Courts are civil courts where immigration judges preside over deportation cases, also known as "removal proceedings." The Immigration Courts are part of the Executive Branch of the federal government. The courts are operated by the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), under the supervision of the U.S. Attorney General. There are sixty-nine immigration courts throughout the U.S. (as of February 20, 2020).
