What is ICE?

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is a federal law enforcement agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). ICE was formed under the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and is responsible for enforcing the immigration laws of the United States. Its main function is to detain and deport immigrants. Several offices are part of ICE, including Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA).
